  • At the age of nine Purna Das started to perform in Joydev Kenduli Mela.

  • From the year of 1942 he joined "Akashbani" (All India Calcutta as a "Class A" guest artist on invitation from the Station Director, without any audition. And he is now "top grade" artist as well as one of the judge of vocal in AIR Calcutta.

  • 1960 to date: Attended nearly 200 national radio conferences covering most of the radio stations through out India

  • 1964 to 1980: Being sponsored by the field publicity department, ministry of broadcasting, he was invited to perform as a guest artist of the government of India in various locations throughout India.

  • 1962 to 1963: Performed over the Doordarshan (television of New Delhi) as a guest artist for the honorable minister of education, Mr. Humayun Kabir.

  • 1970: Visiting artist at the Bombay Doordarshan and performed throughout the year.

  • 1974: Performed in the International Folk Conference at New Delhi as a guest artist and received with wide popularity and appreciation.

  • 1975 to 1992: From the very date of Calcutta Doordarshan Kendra (Both black/white & colour) inauguration, Purna Das joined as a regular performing professional artist. He has performed regularly in different centers of Doordarshan and radio centers in India.

  • 1967: He was awarded the title "Baul Samrat" (THE KING OF BAUL) by the President of India Dr. Rajendra Prasad, in the year

    CINEMA PERFORMANCES:

    • 1958 to date: He has been an important playback singer and actor in a number of Bengali films such as Raikamal, Shila, Jonakir  Alo, Bireshwar Vivekananda, Break, Naika Sangbad, Hangsoraj, Abir, Manab Premik Nimai, Harish Chandra Saiba , Arohan. (As Music Director and Playback singer of Shyam Benegals Hindi Feature Film.

    • THEATRE PERFORMANCES:

    • 1955 to date: He has been an important singer and actor in a number of Bengali Theatre such as Kothaye pabo Tarye, Sri Chaitanyamahaprabhu, Harano Shur, Uddharanpurer – Ghat.

    • There are six English language documentary films on Purna Das. Some were produced in the U.S. and Japan especially well known among them is "Lila". From 1982 he has started on full length Drama on "Sree Chaitanya Mahaprabhu" as an actor, singer and music director.

    • MUSIC CONFERENCE:

    • 1978-1980: Mr. Das was invited from Allahabad Music Conference and got 3 Gold Medal.

    • 1988: He was invited from the Jammu & Kashmir Radio Station for Radio Conference twice in the same year.

    • 1990: Was invited from many radio stations of Bihar.

    • GOVERNMENT INVITATION :

    • 1958: Mr. Das performed in front of Late Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in New Delhi.

    • 1970: Mr. Das performed in Teen Murti Bhavan on Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru’s death anniversary in front of all Cabinet Ministers, Vice President Mr. G.S. Pathak, and Mrs. Indira Gandhi.

    • 1978, ’80, ’82: he performed personally in the late Prime Minister Hon. Smt. Indira Gandhi's house on 1, Safdarjung Road.

    • 1989 (Approx.): He performed in front of Mr. Rajib Gandhi in Calcutta on Hooghly river. And in this year in "SAARC AUDIO VISUAL EXCHANGE" a renowned director Mr. Abhijit Dasgupta pasteurized a documentary films on Mr. Das and on the Baul Culture. In 1990, in Moscow Film Festival this film was awarded as "Diploma of Merit".

    • 1992: On 21st May her performed in Rajib Gandhi’s 1st death anniversary in ‘Shantiban’ in front of all Cabinet Ministers.

    • 1992: On 17th October he was invited in "First South Festivals of SAARC Countries to perform in the "SAARC FESTIVAL" as a Guest Artist of State.

    • 1986: He was invited from Indian Trade exhibition in Bangladesh.

INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCES :

  • Here it will be mentionable that Shri Das is the first person who spread these primitive but authentic spiritual songs of Bengal mainly of Birbhum Districts to each and every corner of the world. And his mystic voice won every spectacular mind. Except for Shri Ravi Shankar, the renowned Indian sitarist, no other Indian Musician gained such popularity in the Eastern World.

  • 1962:     Mr. Das toured U.S.S.R. (Russia, Romania, Finland, Tuskand) for the first time at Helsinki Youth Festival. Mr. Sachindev Barman was the judge from India and in that fest Mr. Das was honored by a gold medal.

  • 1967:     Being sponsored by Mr. Albert B. Grossman Manager of Bob Dylan, Purna Das went on a 6 month tour to the U.S.A. He performed his song in 40 states of U.S.A. He performed in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Berkeley, Mexico, Indiana Pennsylvania, New York, Boston, Chicago, Washington etc. He also performed with the world famous folk singer Bob Dylan, Joan Baize, Peter Paul Merry, Tina Turner in several states.

  • 1971:     Purna Das toured England, France, Luxembourg and Rome. He performed before packed houses receiving the audiences’ full support and appreciation. Also in this tour he performed together in Albert Hall and in Hyde Park. These two were charitable programme. They recorded on L.P. together and then dedicated all the earning money from those programmes and record to Bangladesh Government during their war.

  • 1972:     On invitation, he twice toured Japan, Manila, Singapore, and Thailand in Lion’s World Festival.

  • 1973:     Toured Australia. There he performed at 35 universities and attended "EKORA" Festival. Wherever he went Purna Das received wide media coverage and his programmes appeared on TV. and Radio. He also performed and Dallas Brooks Hall and in may other famous hall.

  • 1974:     Traveled to Bangladesh and performed before the president and his ministers.

  • 1975:     Purna Das toured Europe again for Folk Festivals.

  • 1977:     Toured Berlin, Switzerland, and in London at Jazz Festival.

  • 1978:     Tour to Japan for ATPA Conference.

  • 1979:     He again traveled to U.S.A. There he was invited to perform his song in front of three President in White House (Washington D.C.), Canada and performed at 30 universities. He was also invited to deliver lecture at the different universities on Indian Folk and Baul Music. He also invited in Japan for "Asian Folk Festival".

  • 1980:     Traveled to China, Indonesia for the Folk Festival.

  • 1981:     Gave 40 concerts in the U.S.A. and performed before a large cross section of Americans intellectual audience which gained him enormous popularity and appreciation.

  • 1982:     Purna Das toured Switzerland, London, France.

  • 1983:     He was invited to the U.S.A., Canada, Switzerland, France, Paris, London, Germany, Holland.

  • 1984:     Again he was invited to the U.S.A., Germany & Australia, Italy, Sweden, Greece, Norway, Java.

  • 1985:     He toured with Bob Dylan’s ‘The Band’ in America. He was also invited, in Tennessee Folk Festival.

  • 1986:     He was in for Baul performance at Royal Albert Hall by G.L.C., London and story telling and folk festival in America, toured Bangladesh as a Government Delegation.

  • 1988:     Again in U.S.A. and Japan, Taiwan, Republic of China.

  • 1990:     Invited at Paris, Belgium, Switzerland, France, and Greece in Folk Conference.

  • 1992:     Again in Belgium Folk Festival "Vox Populi" and London in storytelling festival "Spirit of Earth".

  • 1993:     Toured in several countries in Europe. First time appeared in ‘Womad Festival’ in Reading in England.

  • 1994:     Invited from Birmingham Woodbrook University as a visiting professor of Indian Folk Culture. And also being member of story telling organization.

    1995:     Went to Norway for ‘Forde Festival’ as the first Indian Artist.

    • 1996:     Toured in several Folk Festival Italy, Norway, Germany, France, Athens, Amsterdam, Rome for six months and make three CD’s from Cram Disc of Belgium and Real World of London.

    • 1997:     Participated in Womad’s Moving Festival by train in whole Australia and New Zealand. Toured in different States of America.

    • 1998:     Toured in Japan, England and America for total eight months.

    • 1999:     Toured in Bangladesh by the invitation from Bangladesh High Commission and performed in Bangladesh Museum, Muktijoddha Jadughar and dedicated a cassette to them.

    • From 1949 to 1999 March Sri Das has dedicated his  FIFTY GOLDEN  year in this music industry as the Emperor of Baul Music. In March 1999 the whole Birbhum District (Birth Place of Sri Das ) honored him fabulously in different ways.

    • 2000:     Toured in Rome (Italy) to ROMAPOSIA, poetry festival in Rome. In the month of OCT'2000

    • 2001:     Toured in  Montreal (CANADA) to FOBANA 2001 festival at the month of September'2001

    • 2002:     Toured in America (New York, Florida, Washington, CA, Michigan,) for Abbasuddin's birth centennial at the month of 1st march to 20th april'2002

    • 2002:     Toured in  America (New  York)  For Baba Loke Nath Mission at the month of 6th June to 20th June'2002

    • 2002:     Toured in America to San Diego, in World Music center of Los Angeles,  San Francisco, on the month of 27th July to 31st September '2002.

    • 2002:      Toured in Canada to Toronto, Montreal, from 10th October to 1st November '2002.

    • 2002:    Toured in World Jain Conference in Baroda at Gujrat on 5th December '2002.

    • 2003:   Toured in Arizona ,San Diego( University of San Diego),fro 1st April to 23rd April'2003
